Hotpotatoes ESL

I have created a hotpotatoes activity, you can read the information now:

Name of activity. JOB VOCABULARY

Age of children and level. 9 or 10 years old, 5th primary school
Skills of English they’re going to practice (reading, writing, listening, speaking or use of English). We are going to practice reading, writing and vocabulary.
Authoring tool: I have used JQuiz, Jcross and Jcloze
Short description of the activity and how you’re going to carry it out in class.
We are going to practice this vocabulary.
Day 1: we speak about jobs, which jobs they know, which are their favorite jobs… At the end of the class we show a PowerPoint with jobs and their images.
Day 2: we speak about where they work, one by one we show the images with a projector and then we speak about what they do and where they work. At the end of the class we will give them a photocopy with all the information.
Day 3: we do the hot potatoes exercises; they know this application because we used it before. First of all they will do it alone and later they can do it by pairs or in groups.
Link 1: crossword. They could have the list of the different jobs but not the meaning; they have to look for the correct word. When they finish it they can to try to do another crossword with the same words. When everybody finishes it they sit in pairs and they will compare they works and try to do it again correctly.
Link 2: they will do it in pairs and without the papers, they have to complete the gaps, when they finish they can correct it and try to do it again with or without the paper, they choose. In this activity they practice the vocabulary and at the same time check if they know it.
Link 3: we finish with this activity they check if they know every question at the same time they do it.

  1. Hello!!!
I really like the way you planned the lesson. My favourite activity is the crossword! I love crosswords! but I found some words a little bit difficult hehe maybe because it's ten and after a whole day working...my brain is not working very well hehe

BTW, I found this song on youtube that may help you improving your activity, like reviewing all they learnt after those fantastic activities! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MdvTlQzsaYI
    hope you like it!

  2. Hello

I really liked your activities. I think it is a good idea to start with an open activity because in this way the student can think and he can build his thoughts and in the end he will be prepared to solve an exercise.

    Congratulations

  3. Hello hada madrina! I think that your activities are really interesting, and all them are related, so that brings an opportunity to the students to practice the same vocabulary using different ways, so they don't become bored.
Maybe, you can create a more visual presentation of the activities in the blog to motivate not only teachers to put in practice this activities in class but also students to do it at home.

  5. Hello hada madrina!
I really enjoyed these three activities. I really think students will have fun and learn at the same time. Mybe the second one is too long but for sure this is a great way to motivate them and improve the english basic skills.
